Golf Education

Golf Etiquette Tip from Laura Saf:

Be Ready to Play

Players should be ready to play as soon as it is their turn to play.  When playing on or near the putting green, they should leave their bags or carts in such a position as will enable quick movement off the green and towards the next tee.  When the play of a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green.  Write your scores down when you reach the next teeing area.

Golf Rules Tip from Laura Saf:

Instead of doing a Rule this month, let's learn a couple of definitions.  Knowing the definitions is key to understanding the Rules.  They are all located in the front of the Rules of Golf book.

Addressing the Ball:  A player has "addressed the ball" when he has taken his stance and grounded his club, except that in a hazard a player has addressed the ball when he has taken his stance.

Hazard:  A "hazard" is any bunker or water hazard.

Stroke:  A "stroke" is the forward movement of the club made with the intention of striking at and moving the ball, but if a player checks his downswing voluntarily before the clubhead reaches the ball, he has not made a stroke.
